Distribution

Restricted to a small area from Swallow Rock to Mt Glasse (c. 100–180 km due SW of Norseman), south-western W.A.

Description

Harsh, spreading, moderately open shrub 0.7–2.2 m high, glabrous. Bark dark grey to black. Branchlets rigid. Stipules 2–4 mm long, spinose, straight, spreading. Phyllodes sessile, patent to reclined, slightly asymmetric, lanceolate to narrowly triangular, some ovate, 7–13 mm long, 1.8–3.6 mm wide, acuminate, pungent, rigid, green to subglaucous, often tinged pale purple, 1-nerved; lateral nerves not evident. Inflorescences simple, 1 per axil; peduncles 6–8 mm long; heads globular, 23-flowered, golden; bracteoles absent. Flowers 5-merous; sepals free, narrowly linear-spathulate; petals nerveless. Pods curved, ±terete, to 5 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, coriaceous-crustaceous, red-brown, not striate. Seeds longitudinal, oblong-elliptic, 3–3.5 mm long, mottled; aril terminal.

Habitat

Grows in sand or loam, in low woodland or open mallee scrub.

W.A.: 35 km W of Mt Glasse, Bremer Ra., K.Newbey 5574 (PERTH); 19 km NNE of Swallow Rock, Frank Hann Natl Park, K.Newbey 7223 (PERTH).
