Acacia ramiflora Domin
Acacia ramiflora Domin
Fabaceae
A poorly known species in the Torrens Creek-Pentland area; also near headwaters of Gilbert R., Qld (fide L.Pedley (1978), Austrobaileya 1: 210).
Slender shrub to 3 m high. Branchlets pendulous, angled at extremities, soon terete, glabrous. Phyllodes linear to linear-oblanceolate, incurved, (4–) 6–12 (–15) cm long, 2–5 (–8) mm wide, narrowed towards base, acute to gradually- or abruptly-acuminate (with mucro to 2 mm long), thinly coriaceous, glabrous, with 3 indistinct to slightly raised main nerves and normally with few rather obscure anastomosing minor nerves in between; gland 0–2 mm above pulvinus, 1 or 2 additional glands often present. Inflorescences simple or rudimentary 1‑headed racemes with axes 0.5–1 mm long, 2–4 per axil; peduncles (2–) 3–5 (–8) mm long, to 9 mm in fruit, glabrous; basal bract persistent; heads globular, 4.5–5 mm diam., 20–30-flowered yellow. Flowers 5-merous; sepals c. 1/2-united. Pods narrowly oblong or sometimes linear, alternately raised over and slightly constricted between seeds, to 9 cm long, 7-8 mm wide, thinly coriaceous, ±pruinose, glabrous, faintly reticulate, marginal nerve evident. Seeds (immature) longitudinal, exarillate; funicle thickened throughout its length.
Grows on sandstone hills.
Qld: 34 km from Pentland towards Torrens Creek, C.Gittins 2524 (BRI); ‘Rangeside’ 5–18 km E of Torrens Creek, R.H.Rebgetz 778 (BRI).
Related to A. simsii which has phyllodes normally broadest about the middle (when not linear), generally longer peduncles and narrower pods, and arillate funicles.
