Occurs from the Mount Barker–Albany area E to Fitzgerald R. Natl Park, south-western W.A.
Shrub 0.5-2 m high. Branchlets prominently ribbed, commonly red to brown, glabrous. Stipules 2.5-4 mm long. Pinnae 2 (-3) pairs, 3-4 mm long (proximal pinnae), 10-30 mm long (distal pinnae); petiole 1-2 mm long; rachis 3-10 mm long, prominently ribbed adaxially; pinnules 2 pairs (proximal pinnae), 4-10 pairs (distal pinnae), narrowly oblong, 5-12 mm long, 1.5-5 mm wide, flat or slightly recurved, green, glabrous; gland on rachis at base of pinnae, sessile, prominent, with additional smaller glands normally on distal pinna-rachae at base of uppermost 1 or 2 pairs of pinnules. Inflorescences simple, 1-3 per axil; peduncles (6-) 10-20 (-40) mm long, glabrous; heads globular, large, 28-35-flowered, light golden. Flowers 5‑merous; calyx often dark brown; sepals 5/6-united; petals 1-nerved. Pods 3-4 cm long, 6-8 mm wide, glabrous. Seeds transverse, oblong to elliptic, 2-3 mm long.
Favours sandy loam near watercourses in forest, and on laterite, mostly in coastal heath, scrub and shrubland.

A member of the ‘Acacia browniana group’, most closely related to A. empelioclada. Specimens from the eastern extremity of the range, i.e. Fitzgerald R. Natl Park, may ultimately prove to be glabrous variants of A. empelioclada.
